A day after the sacking of two ministers by Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, it was rumored that one of the sacked Ministers, Sale Mamman had collapsed after receiving his resignation letter.
According to reports, the ex-Minister of Power has been admitted to a hospital in the Nation’s Capital, Abuja.
Several online newspapers in Nigeria have cited the Minister’s close associates as reliable sources.
The former minister said he had been unwell since last weekend.
“Even before this step was announced I was very unwell, because I did not even go to the office earlier this week.”
The former Minister said he had not been well enough for a long time because he often went to see a doctor on a regular basis.
“So, yesterday (Wednesday) and today (Thursday) I also went back to the hospital for another round of check-up; and the doctor instructed that I needed some ‘rest’ so I remained at one place to rest,” he said.
The former Minister of Power says he is not in hospital as usual, but is not at home.
“I found a serene and quiet environment to rest and take medication as recommended by the doctor. I didn’t stay at home because sympathisers are trooping to console me; this would prevent me from resting and convalescing on time.
“But I was also not hospitalised, and I didn’t faint as reported.
Borno Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, on Tuesday night visited Pastor Bitrus Tumba whose son died when violence broke out between a demolition task force of Borno Geographic Systems, BOGIS, and worshipers at a branch of EYN church in Maiduguri on August 5, 2021.
The Governor was received by the family and some officials of Christians Association of Nigeria, CAN, led by the association’s chairman, Bishop Mohammed Naga.
Zulum had on the day of the incident sent Borno’s deputy governor, Umar Usman Kadafur, to meet victims of the incident. The Governor also invited and met with Christian leaders, led by CAN chairman, Bishop Naga, after which he directed the police to thoroughly investigate the incident and report to him.
Zulum was scheduled to visit Ezekiel’s family on the day of the incident, but had to abort to allow the tensed situation to douse down. The Governor, instead, sent a private delegation to visit the family on his behalf while he worked behind the scene to calm down situations between religious leaders to prevent potential crisis between youths from different faiths.
At the pastor’s house alongside the Deputy Governor, Umar Kadafur, yesterday, Zulum said, “let me start by apologizing for delaying my visit even though I had sent a delegation to explain this to you. We deliberately delayed because of the tension in town. We thought it was not a good time to pay you a visit then. I am here to commiserate with your family over the unfortunate death of our brother, Ezekiel Bitrus. My coming here today, weeks after that very unfortunate and painful incident, is proof that we have not forgotten the issue.
… Says Shooter in Police Net Amid Ongoing Probe
Governor Zulum, during the visit, assured the family of the deceased of his commitment to ensuring justice as soon as the Nigerian Police completes ongoing investigation which he directed must be thorough.
“So far, suspects have been quietly arrested and all those involved in that dastardly act are being detained and God willing, they will face justice, as soon as the Police completes investigation and make appropriate recommendations. We shall do justice to the matter without fear or favour. We share your pains. No exercise of government is ever aimed to cause injury let alone the death of any citizen. Every person in Borno has equal rights and we have a duty to protect the rights of all persons, top of which is the security of lives. We are pained by what happened and we condole you and your family. Although, I had sent people to you, I was morally and officially duty bound to visit your family. Please accept our deepest condolences”.
Zulum was also accompanied by his Chief of Staff, Prof. Isa Marte Hussaini, and one of his commissioners from the christian community.
Responding on his family’s behalf, Pastor Bitrus Tumba expressed appreciation to the governor for the visit and said, he considered Ezekiel’s death as an act of God which the family accepts in good faith.
Pastor Bitrus added that everyone dies in a different way, and God has destined Ezekiel to die from gunshot which no one could have stopped.
“Whatever we do, we cannot bring the dead back to life; as true Christians we have accepted it in good faith. Your Excellency we express our appreciation to you for the visit, I have followed all your efforts on the death of our son, and they show your concern and the fact that you did not forget us, we really appreciate you”, Pastor Bitrus said.
Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has stated that what Nigerians need in 2023 is someone who can unity the security and tackle Insecurity.
The governor called for the jettisoning of zoning, stressing that such is not found in the constitution of the All Progressives Congress (APC) or the 1999 constitution.
Speaking in an interview with Daily Trust published on Sunday, the APC chieftain stated that today there is poverty everywhere and insecurity is almost everywhere.
According to him, if the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which has been tagged a failure had practice zoning, then the ruling APC should not follow such part.
He said: “I have gone through our party’s constitution and did not see where zoning of the presidency is stated. I do not know of any party’s constitution where zoning is stated. I have also read the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and did not see where zoning was mentioned. So we should not import what is not in the constitution.
“If a party like the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which we say did not govern this country properly, practised it and it seemingly did not work, why should we consider it? We are practising democracy, and from what we know, zoning is against its principle. It is purely about number and merit.”
Yahaya Bello urged the ruling party to simply look at who can do the job and pull Nigeria out of the woods –someone who will unite and secure the country.

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has insisted that the agenda of Fulani herdsmen in Nigeria is to conquer the entire nation.
The Governor, while speaking with BBC pidgin at the weekend, said he has documents to back up his claims.
According to him, the Fulani Nationality Movement who claimed responsibility for his recent attack, said that Nigeria is their only country.

Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, has called on the United Nations to step in and take control of parts of the country as the regime of President Muhammadu Buhari has failed to fulfil its responsibilities under international laws. Mr Soyinka said the international community “has a right and responsibility to declare sections of the country as a protectorate under the UN,” asking that the international body pull a “Namibia” and protect certain regions of the country. “We are calling on the United Nations to intervene and stop this slave trade,” Mr Soyinka declared at an event in Lagos at the weekend. He explained that when protocols and conditions given by the UN and signed by a said nation are violated, such nation has failed to live up to its responsibilities.
the protocols are there for any nation to champion the cause of these children and thereby enforce on this government international intervention in whatever form,” Mr Soyinka said.
Mr Soyinka’s comments refer to school kidnappings, such as the Bethel Baptist School, Kaduna where 32 students were released from their captors on Friday. Mr Soyinka described the kidnapping and targeting of school children as slavery, which he stated is more lucrative within the country than exporting people. Mr Soyinka said he’d been in talks with governments and foreign heads of states, appealing that they elevate the targeting of children and the “forced repatriation to the attention of the United Nations in the next General Assembly.”
President Muhammadu Buhari has described the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, as thieves.
Buhari insisted that IPOB led by Nnamdi Kanu are thieves promoting terrorism.
The president argued that IPOB is not defending Christians in the Southeast.
In a statement by his mouthpiece, Garba Shehu, the president lamented the group’s attack on police stations and government facilities in the Southeast, NAN reports.
Buhari maintained that the Kanu-led group are not freedom fighters.
The statement reads partly: “Further afield in the South-East, IPOB are not struggling for freedom when they attack police stations and property, but rather committing acts of terrorism,” to steal money.
“IPOB is not defending Christians, as their highly paid foreign lobbyists claim when almost every citizen of those states they terrorize is uniformly Christian.”
The president also appealed to Nigerians to unite against, “those who seek to divide us for their own nefarious financial and political gain.”
Economic hardship being experienced in Imo State has been compounded following the strike by the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association as Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) now sells for N500 per litre at the black market. This situation has consequently caused over a 100% rise in transport fares across the state.
Members of the Imo State chapter of IPMAN had on Wednesday commenced a strike over refusal of the Imo State government to honour a court judgment to pay compensation to a member of the association whose fuel station was demolished by the past administration of former Governor Rochas Okorocha.
As the strike enters its 3rd day, black market operators are now having a field day, with a litre of fuel now costing between N500 and N550. Fuel stations operating in the state have all shut down. Our correspondent who monitored the situation on Friday reports that commercial bus drivers as well as motorcyclists have tripled their fares.
Saturday Sun learnt the black market operators go to neighbouring states of Anambra and Abia to source PMS at of 240 per litre and then sell at N500 /550 per litre. Transport fare from Owerri to Orlu is N1000 as against normal price of N400 . This situation has left many passengers stranded.
