Plateau Killings: State Assembly Approves Self Defense, Advises Residents.

Plateau house of assembly has called on residents to stand up and defend themselves against killers in the state.

Plateau has recently come under a series of attacks by gunmen, who kill residents and ravage communities.

WITHIN NIGERIA assembled that the assembly gave Simon Lalong, governor of Plateau, two weeks to address the security crisis ravaging the state.

Chairman of house of committee on information, Philip Dasun disclosed the resolution of the assembly during a press conference held in Jos on Friday.

According to Dasun, the lawmakers made the resolution during their plenary session.

“On behalf of the Plateau State House of Assembly, I wish to sympathise with the government and people of Plateau State on the barbaric and dastardly killings that have been taking place in different communities of Bassa, Barkin Ladi, Bokkos, Jos North, Jos South, Mangu, Riyom, University of Jos community and recently that of Yelwa Zangam,” he said.

“The House condemns the killings in totality. These killings are unacceptable and condemnable. We commiserate with the families of all those who lost their loved ones during the attacks.

“We strongly call on Plateau people to practically stand up and defend themselves and their communities, as the conventional security design is no longer guaranteeing our safety as a people.

“We commend the youths on the Plateau for sustained coordinated and organised campaigns against the killings and as well the courage to make it go viral by sending strong messages to the world using the dead bodies from the mayhem on the social media and the streets of Jos; the display of the corpses in the House is a sign that they recognised the authority of the House of Assembly as an institution that can speak for the people. We greatly appreciate that action.

“As an assembly with people at heart, we call on Plateau State citizens to have confidence in us with renewed commitment as we have given two weeks to the governor Simon Lalong to take action on the resolutions the House has forwarded on security matters and how to restore peace.

“We call on the governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong, to come up with a statement defending us as a people and to bring back renewed commitment to the cause of Plateau.

“We are still expecting with high hopes, the President to also come up with a statement about the killings in Yelwa Zangam just as he did in the killings of travellers along Rukuba road and to also indicate a sign of justice or we will see him as being reflexive about the conflict in Plateau.”

Bandits Will Remain Business Until Military Bomb The Forests, Eliminate All – El Rufai

Kaduna Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has said the only way to put an end to banditry in the country is for the military to bomb the forests where they are hiding and eliminate them completely.

“We need the combination of air power, and we need troops on the ground augmented by local expertise and knowledge. We need just one, two, three months operation to just try to kill all the bandits. It’s the only way to stop this. So long as these bandits are being paid, it’ll remain a business. So the only option that we have is to ensure that we kill them all.”

The Kaduna governor claimed there has been a decline in the operation of bandits across the northern part of the country. He said the reduction in banditry is due to the efforts of the Nigerian air force.

“I’m very happy that the chief of air staff has been bombing them. So, you’ll see there’s a decline in banditry. What you see is the coordinated action with air power, use of drones.”

A Sad Tale Of Two President In One By Ifeanyi Calistus

“Attacks on NDA won’t dampen the resolve of our military to end criminality”. President Buhari

This is not the kind of statement expected from the same President that brazenly intoned with immediate alacrity and venom months ago followed by fire and fury that:

“We’ll treat them in the language they’ll understand”. President Buhari

Mr. President, why the lame and cold reactions when you are expected to be rolling out tanks and missiles in equal alacrity, fury, fire and venom in order to equally teach them in the language they’ll understand?

No Anti-Grazing Law In Imo State – Gov. Uzodinma

With just few days to the September 1, 2021 target set by the 17 southern governors for states in the region to enact anti-open grazing legislation, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has become the first governor from the region to go against the agreement reached with his colleagues.

The governor on Wednesday declared that there is no law forbidding open grazing by cattle rearers in the state.

But in sharp contrast with the agreement reached by the southern governors, Uzodimma said: “I don’t have any law in Imo State for anti-grazing. But what we have done is that we are regulating grazing activities in Imo State under a partnership between our farmers and herders. They have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in my office and agreed to work together. And both parties are going about their businesses without interfering or causing any grievance or anger to each other.”

He also said the recent sit-at-home order given by the Independent People Of Biafra (IPOB) was not carried out in the state, saying people went about their normal businesses.

2023: Retire For Younger Candidate, PDP Group tells Atiku

A group, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Action 2023 has urged the party’s 2019 presidential candidate, former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar to step aside and allow the younger generation to fly the party’s ticket in the next general election.

PDP action 2023 in a statement by its Chairman, Rufus Omeire, Wednesday, noted that “for PDP to achieve this aim, it should present an acceptable candidate for President in 2023”.

The group noted that ” in 2019, the PDP presented Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. He contested against President Buhari and lost. He will be 77 in 2023. It is very shameful that since he lost the presidential election, he moved to Dubai, abandoning all members of PDP, all the stakeholders, and millions of ordinary Nigerians who voted for him and PDP in 2019.

“It is a betrayal of trust for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to neglect the feelings and sacrifices of ordinary voters who supported him and PDP in 2019, the group added.

“We think that time has come for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, GCON, to step aside and allow others, preferably the younger generation, to step forward. He can be asked to take the position of the Chairman PDP Board of Trustees where he will play an advisory role to younger politicians, as an elder statesman”.
