IPOB sit-at-home Order Is Social Media Propaganda, Imo People Welcomed Buhari – Gov. Uzodinma

Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has tagged the sit-at-home order of the Indigenous People of Biafra a mere social media propaganda as he, lauds President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to Imo state.

Uzodinma who spoke on Politics Today, a Channels TV broadcast on Thursday said the IPOB sit-at-home order was not effective in Imo.

“You could see that the sit at home order is only a social media sit at home order,” the governor said, “the sit at home order is not in Imo State because we never issued any sit at home order, Imo people are excited, Imo people are happy that the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, one united Nigeria with common destiny, visited Imo state, commissioned projects and spoke to his people,” he added.

President Buhari on Thursday visited Imo State to inaugurate key projects embarked upon by Mr Uzodinma’s government.

The visit had raised security concerns following the IPOB’s sit-at-home order against the visit.

However, Uzodinma discarded the threat, saying that there was no form of security breach or violence during the president’s visit.

Imo is considered to be the epicenter of secessionist agitations by the Igbos led by IPOB.

Adamawa Becomes First Northern State To Support VAT Reform

Adamawa State has announced its preparedness to consider the stance of Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike on the collection of Value Added Tax (VAT) in the state, making it the first northern state to show interest in the move.

The Rivers Division of the Federal High Court in August held that the state government should take charge of VAT instead of the federal government, after Mr Wike’s administration filed a suit seeking the power to do so, over illegality claims.

The court, presided by Justice Stephen Pam, noted that the Rivers government and not the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) was authorised to collect VAT.

No Going Back On Anti Grazing Law, Go Ahead And Do Your Worst – Akeredolu Blasts Miyetti Allah Business Men

Akeredolu who is the Chairman of the South West Governors’ Forum and the Coordinator of the Southern Governors’ Forum disclosed that nothing would make him and other governors rescind their decision.

Akeredolu said the move by Miyetti Allah was an indication that the group was unbothered about the crimes perpetrated under the pretence of being herders.

While emphasizing that no bandit would be allowed to operate in the State under “any dubious guise”, he said the government has the “responsibility to implement the law for the benefit of the people of the state and those, who may share in their aspiration for development of their God-given space.”

“They claim to be above the law of any State in the Federation. They warn of the imminent breach of peace and promotion of pervasive anarchy if they are not allowed to ravage the sweat and toil of the long-suffering farmers who, apparently, don’t count for much in the scheme of things in their estimation.

“No part of our land will be given to foreigners who cling to a dubious regional protocol as an instrument validating dispossession. Let him practice his cultural practices on his father’s land. His likes will not be permitted to operate with impunity in Ondo State. We will defend our land.”

Sunday Igboho Aides: Armed robbers have stolen the case file — DSS

The Department of State Services, DSS, on Wednesday, told the Federal High Court in Abuja that a gang of mobile armed robbers commonly known as ‘One Chance’, highjacked its case file on the fundamental rights enforcement suit that was filed by detained associates of Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.

Consequently, the security agency, through its lawyer, Mr. I. Awo, prayed the court to adjourn further proceedings on the matter till a later date.

Awo told the court that the ‘One-Chance’ thieves snatched the case-file from his colleague who unknowingly boarded their vehicle.
He told Justice Obiora Egwuatu that aside from the case file, other items belonging to his colleague were also stolen.

what Yoruba Nation Agitators Want Fairness, Concerned About Insecurity_Ooni Of Ife

Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, speaks on Yoruba nation in his interview with Punch news

You know that is a very sensitive issue. What are the people agitating for? They are agitating for fairness; they are saying what is sauce for the goose should be sauce for the gander. The best bet for us is to have one country, but when people are feeling otherwise, there must be reasons they are agitating. Fifteen to 20 years ago, was it like that? When Yoruba people were in power, were there agitations? There must be reasons and we all know the reason has to do with banditry and insecurity. Even in the north, some people are also kicking. What is important now is for us to adequately separate the grain from the chaff. I am not going to blame the agitators. There must be a reason why they are agitating. I will suggest we talk to them; let’s bring them on board, deliberate with them. Let’s debate. It is very important for us to debate and debate on our corporate existence, for things to be right. It is very critical. For me, that is my own approach. Even when you go to war, at the end of the day, you must sit down to negotiate. So, why not have the roundtable discussion now? Why not go through that route? Why must you go through hot agitation and try to destroy things? The best approach has always been the peaceful approach.

Yoruba Nation agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, alias Sunday Igboho, made rude remarks about you and later apologised. Have you forgiven him?

This throne, you own the good, the bad and the ugly. You are a father to the good, the bad and the ugly. We are not leaving him. We have set up a lot of committees. Professionals are involved. They are on board for everything in Nigeria to be right ultimately and to look into his (Igboho’s) case. So, we are working very closely with all the relevant authorities to make sure that all is well.

It was in the news that you and the Olubadan sent a delegation to Cotonou, Benin Republic, where Igboho had been arrested and facing trial. What was its mission?

Everybody is worried, but for me, I believe more in positive energy than negative energy, so let’s just keep praying for our government. Let us keep praying for them (the leaders) to continue to do what is right and for us to continue to guide them as traditional rulers. Nobody is perfect, but when positive energy is there, there will be light at the end of the tunnel. It is a challenge for us all. Let us thank God that the economy is out of recession. Recent data revealed that we have grown more than five per cent in terms of our gross domestic product and the rate at which we have been having children is about six to four per cent but the economy was growing like 0.4 per cent; it is not adding up. But this time round, I think the agitation will continue to come down if the government focuses more on economic development. That will ensure even distribution of wealth. I know they are working on that, we have seen a positive response over the last six years.

Most bandits are Fulani who profess same religious beliefs as me –Masari

Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari, says most bandits are of the Fulani ethnic stock as himself, adding that they speak Fulfulde and profess the same religious beliefs as himself.

He said many northerners might not like his revelation but maintained that his disclosure remains the truth.

The governor spoke on Monday as a guest on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ programme monitored by The PUNCH.

When asked about the identities of bandits terrorising the entire North-West and other parts of the country, Masari said, “They are the same people like me, who speak the same language like me, who profess the same religious beliefs like me.

“So, what we have here on ground are bandits; they are not aliens, they are people we know, they are people that have been living with us for 100 of years.

Military Attacking Bandits Will Not Solve Anything – Gumi

Prominent Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has declared that bandits currently troubling the northern part of Nigeria “are going nowhere”.

According to Gumi in a post on his known Facebook page on Monday morning titled’ ‘Zamfara: The Flaring Of Crisis’, military action against criminal herdsmen and bandits will not solve the security challenge, but “will only worsen the situation”.

The controversial Islamic preacher was reacting to the recent perceived military success over bandits at Zamfara forests.

Extract from Gumi’s post below:

ZAMFARA: THE FLARING OF CRISIS

Meaning:
“ … Every time they kindle the fire of war, Allah doth extinguish it; but they (ever) strive to do mischief on earth. And Allah loveth not those who do mischief.

“The danger we face now is ideological demagogues changing the narrative. They are trying hard to infiltrate the herdsmen. And we know their objectives. They want to destroy all modern governments by fighting the military and now in the recent cajoling of local populations, they have tormented before to join them in the struggle.”

“Let us face the reality, these herdsmen are going nowhere, and they are already in battle gear, and we know our Military very well, so before things get messy, we need cold brains to handle this delicate situation. Its common sense that if you allow your neighbors to be your enemy you are already conquered. Because they can easily be used against you by other forces as we see now the herdsmen are ultimately used to destabilize the region, pauperize and even depopulate it.”

“Military actions in the past have worsen the situation stimulating herdsmen resistance. Any more action will push them closer to religious fanaticism. It gives them protection from discrediting them as thieves and also reinforce their mobilization of gullible young unemployed youth as we saw with BH.”

It Is Time For Arewa, Biafra Go Their Separate Ways – Tukur Danmu’azu

I believe Igbo should have their Biafra because I find no single positive reason why we must live as one nation while other people closer to us than the Igbo are having separate nations.
As a man without colonial mentality, I do not allow colonial hangover to becloud my reason.

There is already Biafra. No Hausa/Fulani dares dream of going to the east for whatever reason. So where is the one Nigeria?
Is it not better to make the separation formal so that we can trade freely and and even send ambassadors?
Can’t you see how we ralate with Niger Republic, Cameroon, Ghana, Chad and Benin Republic?
We related with some of them for ages even before we know the Igbo.
What is wrong if strangers, Igbos, have their seprate nation like our old friends in Niger Rep, Ghana, Chad etc do?

For a hundred years past, we have lived in mutual suspicion and bitterness with these strangers, sometimes leading to carnage.
Why must we live as some dead colonial masters wanted us to live?
Only truth can solve this problem not a python [dance] and not a civil war mentality. We, the Hausa/Fulani, are already the victims of this profitless irrational one Nigeria. Countless Hausa/Fulani people have died like dogs, unmourned, uncompensated for, unavenged. Why must we accept economic blockade and massacres in the name of a fictional arrangement ?
What is our gain and what is our profit ?
Northern muslims have never met with disaster in all of their history that consumes more blood, that destroys livelihood, that poisons the pyschic like one Nigeria. I care more for my people than Nigeria. I do not see Nigeria as worth the death and continuous humiliation of my people.

We lack everything because of one Nigeria. Our markets are not ours. Our banks are not ours. Our telecommunitionbusiness are not ours. Our schools are not ours. Our foreign scholarship are not ours. We have no control over anything except our mouths that we are forced to shut up.
We are the poorest in all developemental indices in Africa because we gave up everything to one ungrateful Nigeria.
We must resist the false suggestion of greedy thieves posing as our leaders whose only vision is to own a mansion in Dubai.
Neither shall we fall for the error of old men dreaming of past personal glory.

Let us reassess our condition rationally and boldly. Let us define the direction of our own future. Let us choose what we believe is the best for us and our children and fight for it.
We and our youth must think for ourselves and give direction to our history. The world has changed and so we must change. We are not less than 90 million in population. We are the largest black nation on earth even without Nigeria. We must never remain stagnant and blinded by fake arrangement.

Colonial nation states arrangement like Nigeria are fast losing relevence. The world is dealing in regions made up of real mutually compatible groups of people. Every great compatible group of people are striving to be truly represented in regions.
Each mutually compatible people wish to, directly without acrimonious hindrance, exploit the opportunity offered by regionally organised globalized world. Each also wishes to enrich the world and preserve their common heritage. This is the reason for anti-colonial self determination struggles across the globe from Europe to Asia and from Australia to Americas. The Igbos had travelled and mingled among free nations. No power on earth will stop them from dancing in the rising sun of growing freedom of people away from the stagnant historical dustbin of nation statism.

They want to face the world on their own terms.
We, on our part, must not continue to be victims of shortsighted local helmsmen who cannot think beyond what those dead imperial masters had ordained by force of arms. If our parents were ruled by them, we must never accept their ghosts to rule us via greedy hosts.
Ninety million people are by far larger than 60% of individual nations in the world. We will not be the poorest. We will not be the weakest. We will not be isolated. Infact, we will be the biggest in Africa and among the richest. So why all the self imprisonment in an old moribund, no longer safe and no longer relevant Nigeria ? Every wise man when given the choice of saving the house or the family, would certainly choose to save the family. So I choose my people. I want them to be free anywhere in the world including in Biafra, and I want them to be in control of what is theirs at home. So I choose my people.

Lessons from Afghanistan: The Imperative for a United Spirit Against Insurgencd By Pelumi Olajengbesi Esq.

Much has been and will continue to be written about the Taliban’s takeover of military and political power in what is now called the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. It is an emerging story that has left the world aghast at its sheer incredulity and the implications for Afghans, its neighbours and the whole world.

For sub-saharan Africa, particularly Nigeria which now finds itself buffeted by an unending war against insurgents in the northeast and religiously motivated cells of militias and bandits in the North West and Central, there could be explosive consequences as local jihadists could very well find motivation for their actions and be spurred onto even deadlier actions in pursuit of shared objectives with the Afghan Mujahideens.

There are serious concerns here. Religious fanaticism and extremism have been fingered as the culprit behind the Boko Haram insurgence and the general abhorrence of western-styled education even amongst a northern populace with neither affinity nor sympathy for insurgency. Misguided romanticism for fanatically conservative ethos in northern Nigeria could very well be fertile ground for even more extremist strains to be sown and spread. If it happens, if we lose the north to the seduction of extremism as represented by spectrums such as the Islamic State of West Africa (ISWAP) aka Boko Haram, Al-Qaeda and the Taliban, we would all be sorry.

What’s more, with increased ethno-religiously motivated killings in Jos, Kaduna and Benue state, Kano Hisbah’s nonplussed banning of mannequins and contemplation of banning female drivers; Boko Haram’s imposition of its own Governor in Borno state, hoisting of its flag in Shiroro, Niger state so dangerously close to the nation’s capital, Abuja and the guerrilla campaign of herdsmen and bandits whose murderous assault on innocent civilians remain unchecked, one fears that the Taliban ideology has pervaded and permeated the fringes of northern Nigeria than is sufficiently admitted or talked about. We must be wary!

The lesson for Nigeria from Afghanistan is therefore specific. No one will fight for our continuous independence outside of ourselves. This is our war and we can’t afford to lose. We must embrace our pluralism and work harder to achieve an integrated society amenable to constructive change and development. Taliban and Boko Haram represent the very opposite of progressive as seen in their objectification and relegation of women, abhorrence for science and innovation, and rather violent disposition against the right to thought, religion and assembly. Even Afghans know!

The videos and pictures out of Afghanistan reveal so much desperation. There is an uneven scramble for available conveyance out of Afghanistan by diplomats and indigenes alike. In one particular video, two young men are seen hanging onto the recoiling wheels of a plane that takes off into the air, they are then seen to lose their grip and fall to their deaths with their blood-spattered bodies on the sidewalk a befitting, if not sober, canvass of the despondency in Afghanistan today.

I recollect that when Libya fell, a proliferation of arms and jihadists found their way into Nigeria to join the so-called ‘holy war’ and stunted the imperative of a hitherto progressively successful war against Boko Haram. With Afghanistan’s fall to the Taliban, we must be even warier. They will hope to embolden local terrorists and the casualties would be the nation’s sovereignty and the freedom of you and I.

Indeed, if we let our country be consumed, we may never find our way back to nationhood. We are warned!
